Gerald “Jerry” Lawson Dare age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Westminster, CO surrounded by family on January 7th, 2020. Jerry was born December 19, 1932 in Ontario California to the home of David Hunter Dare and Zelda (Hollingworth) Dare. Jerry is preceded in death by his brother Michael, his sister Diane, and daughter Tracy. Survivors include his wife Lynne (McIlvaine) Dare, sons Donny Dare (wife Jane), John Dare (wife Angela), Jerry Dare (wife Debbie), Mike Dare (wife Vicki), Scott Smith (wife Katie), Jeff Dakin (wife Julie), Mark Dakin (wife Synthia), daughters Margo Dakin, Wendy Chafin (husband Lawrence), Kristen Slater (husband Chris) as well as 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jerry served in the Air Force, Army, and Army Reserve.
Jerry earned his Master’s degree from CU Boulder. Before he retired he was an educator and business owner, but he strove to teach even after retirement as well.
Jerry loved to ski, play tennis, and coach football. In his earlier adventures with his children he raced motorcycles, go-carts and formula race cars. He loved all dogs, but especially his current dog Watson.
The family would like to thank the owners and staff at the Golden Rockies Assisted Living who loved and cared for Jerry over the past year. The family would also like to thank the staff at Bridges Community Homecare and Hospice. The family will be having a private celebration of life.
